It was an up and down performance against finals hopefuls Calamvale on the weekend. Our first quarter was solid, the second was disappointing, then in the third and fourth quarters we played some of our best footy this season. This included a 15 minute burst in the last quarter where we kicked 5 unanswered goals. This brought us within 28 points of the leopards. Only we fell asleep and allowed them to finish strongly and blow the score out.

Our forward line functioned well, kicking our highest score of the season: 13 goals for the first time. And our mid-field, even without key players TJ Richards and Ben Greenwood (who were unavailable), was solid coming out even overall.

Unfortunately it was our tenth straight loss. On the surface this doesn't look great, but the determination of the senior group to get that breakthrough win this season is as high as it has ever been.

Jai Shire's effort in the ruck was excellent, giving our on-ballers first use and taking some telling marks around the ground. Mark Harris played his first game for the club as rover and, after a slow start, was pivotal in the last quarter burst. He is going to be a great inclusion to the on-ball mix going forward. Matt Harley was moved into the middle of the ground and played his best game for the club, picking up quality possessions. Later he moved forward and kicked goals. Brendon Richards also had a solid second half showing he can be a dangerous midfielder when on song.

Our next game is against powerhouse side Caboulture at Caboulture. The feeling amongst the group is we are going down there to cause an upset and not just to make up the numbers.
